Mubarak trial 5-8-2011: Third hearing of Mubarak trial begins without cameras

The third hearing in the trial of Egypt’s former president began around 11:30 this morning in the Police Academy in Cairo’s Fifth Settlement once the defendants entered the dock in the courtroom.

Hosni Mubarak, accused of financial crimes as well as murdering demonstrators during Egypt’s January 25 Revolution, again entered the dock on a hospital stretcher.

Mubarak’s sons Alaa and Gamal, former Minister of Interior Habib al-Adly, and six of al-Adly’s assistants are also defendants it the case.

Judge Ahmed Refaat leads the court.

During the hearing, the first to hear witness testimony and also the first not to be broadcast on live television, a member of the defense team announced he has lists of names of victims of the revolution from hospitals and ambulances.

Outside the Police Academy, clashes took place between the martyrs’ families and security forces. Demonstrators called for the execution of Mubarak, al-Adly and al-Adly’s assistants.

At noon, Judge Refaat called a 20-minute recess for deliberation. The trial resumed around 1pm, with the families of the martyrs chanting for Mubarak's execution as the defendants re-entered the dock.
